Choices & Rights Disability Coalition (CARDC) started in 1992 as a small voluntary campaigning group with no staff, resources or office and has developed into the leading disability organisation in the Hull & East Riding Area. Choices & Rights only allow disabled people to be members of the management board and is managed 100% by disabled people.

Choices & Rights:

  • Campaign on a wide variety of disability issues.
  • Run and manage Hull & East Riding Centre for Independent Living, providing information, advice and a range of services for disabled people, their families and service providers.
  • Provide consultancy and advice to other organisation in the voluntary, statutory and private sector, both locally and nationally.
  • Produce regular information bulletins as well as information and resource packs.
  • Organise conferences, workshops and forums so that disabled people can be informed of new developments and have an opportunity to voice opinions face to face

Who can access the services?

Disabled people and people associated with disabled people such as relatives, friends, carers, PAs and other professionals who work with disabled people who live in Hull & the East Riding of Yorkshire.

When disabled people from outside of Hull & the East Riding of Yorkshire contact us we will endeavour to find them a service local to their area which works to a suitable quality standard.

How can the services be accessed?

We do not encourage people to call into our offices without an appointment as we do not have the staff numbers nor the interview space to accommodate this.

We accept clients who self refer as well as those signposted and/or formally referred by other organisations.

First contact is usually by telephone; we often find we can deal with quite long and complex cases through telephone/e-mail contact only.

We will endeavour to fit our service provision around the access needs of the disabled person.

Where?

From the Choices & Rights offices. Most case are dealt with via the telephone, but the need for a meeting at our offices or a home visit will be assessed on a case by case basis taking into consideration the access needs of the client.

We both advise and advocate for clients and where appropriate we will attend to support clients in mediation/conciliation meetings etc.
